INTRODUCTION

History of the Medical Academy of Crimea Federal University goes back to the beginning of the 21st century: in 1918 it was medical faculty of Taurida University. In 1931 it separated and became an autonomous unit - Crimea Medical Institute, Since 1995 the higher school has been named in honor of Sergey Ivanovich Georgievsky (rector of the institute in 1951-1970). In 1998 the higher school became a university with the 4th (highest) accreditation level. The campus is built on the bank of the River Salgir in a five minutes' walk from the educational buildings. On the opposite bank of the Salgir there is Gagarin park, the largest and most beautiful park in Simferopol, a favorite place of rest for the citizens and guests of our town. Today it is an up-to-date educational institution upgrading itself to keep abreast of global trends in medical education and research, developing its intellectual potential and providing top specialists for medical services. The University has always been striving for excellence in teaching and research.

LIBRARY & RESEARCH

The library of the State establishment Medical Academy of Crimea Federal University, created in 1956, fulfill an important role in organization of many-sided educational process. The State establishment Medical Academy of Crimea Federal University has 3 libraries. The library has own 3 separate buildings. One of these libraries is a regional medical library, located at the city center housing more than 700,000 copies of different literature. It has a considerable fund of home and foreign periodicals, author's abstracts and dissertations, a great number of reference and bibliographical literature. Every year about 20 thousand new books come into the library. Scientific research is carried out almost at all the departments, in the central research laboratory and in separate scientific laboratories of the University. These are the laboratories of clinical immunology, physiology and ecological medicine, microbiology, morphology with electronic microscopy, biotechnology. The scientific progress is also promoted by the publishing activity: the University publishes "Taurida Medical Biological Herald", "Herald in Physiotherapy and Balneology", "Taurida Magazine of Psychiatry", Crimean Therapeutic Magazine", digest Problems.
